KARACHI: Three gunmen took away Rs7 million from a money changer in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday morning as the exchanger allegedly did not have any safety measures in place, officials said.

Sharea Faisal SHO Safdar Mashwani said the three suspects riding a motorbike appeared at the money changer’s office located near Jauhar Mor in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. One of the two guards was posted outside and the other inside the office.

As soon as the office was opened, one suspect entered it as a customer, held the unarmed guard at gunpoint and took away Rs7m from a shelf. The incident occurred at 9.05am.

The officer said that the money changer’s office comprised only one room without any security measures. They had hired two guards but they both were unarmed and untrained. The cameras installed there also did not work.

The area SHO recalled that the same money changer was looted in the recent past, but despite that no precautionary measures were taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

He hinted that the police were contemplating to take action against the owner of the exchange under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
