LARKANA, June 29: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Wednesday accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of killing religious scholars and political leaders in Karachi and demanded removal of the Sindh governor. Speaking at a rally of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Sindh, the MMA president, MNA Assadullah Bhutto, said here on Wednesday the law and order situation in the province was continuously deteriorating and ulema and even assembly members were being killed.

He said it was height of injustice that the government was not registering FIRs on complaints of the victims’ relatives.

He said the killings, including those of Maulana Shmazai and former MPA Aslam Mujahid, were targeted.

Sindh JI Amir, Dr Mumtaz Memon, Naimatullah Khuhro of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and other speakers alleged that the rulers were creating a law and order situation in the province to bulldoze the local bodies’ elections in the province.

They said the local government elections should be held under a caretaker set-up after removal of the present government.

They apprehended that the elections would be rigged if held under the present set-up.

They also criticized President Gen Pervez Musharraf for siding with the United States and accused the government of handing over ‘mujahideen’ to the US.

They said unemployment, inflation and insecurity were on the rise.

They held the government responsible for bomb blasts in mosques and imambargahs and said those were carried out to weaken the MMA and create sectarian misunderstandings.

They said the fragile law and order situation had encouraged tribal clashes in the rural areas while rising poverty and price hike had made life of people miserable.
