HARIPUR, June 29: The city police on Wednesday arrested three officials of the education department, one of them a woman, on the charge of adultery. An FIR was registered under the Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance, 1979, against a deputy district education officer, the woman and a teacher.

The EDO Haripur has placed the three under suspension and written to the higher authorities for further instructions.

The police said they had acted on information about the presence of the three persons in the building of Government Primary School Central Jail Bazaar. When a police party raided the school building, they found Deputy District Officer Dr Taimoor Khan and the woman teacher in an objectionable condition.

The police also arrested Mohammad Arif, head teacher of the school, who had allegedly facilitated the couple’s meeting during the summer vacation.

The accused were taken to DHQ hospital Haripur for a medical check-up. Doctors collected and sent specimens to Peshawar laboratories for chemical analysis.

All the three accused were in police custody and expected to be produced for physical remand before the court on Thursday.—Correspondent
