FAISALABAD, June 29: A man and his daughter were buried alive when the roof of their house caved in due to heavy rains late Tuesday. Reports said Ashraf and his daughter Aqeela were sleeping in a room along with other members of their family when its roof caved in. The father and daughter died. However, other inmates had a narrow escape. The area people recovered the bodies from under the debris. A number of trees and poles were uprooted in Faisalabad because of the rain and windstorm.

CIVIC AGENCIES: The performance of civic agencies was also exposed as the city gave the look of a pond in the wake of downpour.

Both Wasa and the Tehsil Municipal Administration (city) were unable to drain out the rainwater from low-lying and posh localities till Wednesday night.

There are reports of sewage entering the houses in Ghulam Muhammadabad, Razabad, Allama Iqbal Colony, Samanadad and other parts of the city. Sources said the TMA failed to provide the required infrastructure to Wasa for tackling the situation. According to local Met office, the city received 54 millimetre rain while the winds were gauged at 25 knots. The humidity was 84 per cent.—Staff Correspondent
