KARACHI, June 28: The Sindh Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Sohrab Khan Sarki, said that it was the responsibility of everyone to come forward and help the underprivileged.

He was speaking as chief guest at a 3-day advocacy workshop held at a local hotel. The workshop was organised by the Pakistan Association of the Blind (PAB), in collaboration with the Asian Blind Union (ABU).

Dr Sarki said the present government was making every effort to integrate disabled people with other segments of the society with grace, dignity and respect.

In this regard he referred to an Act passed by the Sindh Assembly providing for 2 per cent job quota for these special persons and extending their job limits from BPS 15 to 22.

The minister urged special persons and their organizations to come up with new ideas regarding their economic uplift.

He informed that the Sindh government had recommended to the federal government an increase in the job quota for the special persons from 2 to 3 per cent.

PAB President Qari Saad Noor stressed the need to depute representatives of the blinds of Pakistan in the United Nations like many other countries of the world.

Earlier, S.K. Rangta chairman, Human Rights Committee, ABU, reiterated that he would do all to upgrade the standard of living of special people and for this he sought cooperation from the society, besides the establishment of a separate ministry for special person.

Ms Anita Dhanda, resource person, Human Rights Committee, ABU, and PAB General Secretary Mehmood Shah also spoke.—APP
