KARACHI, June 28: The Sindh Information Technology Department will open ten more free IT awareness centres in different districts of Sindh and the formal inauguration of these centres would start from June 29.

This was announced by the Sindh Minister for Information Technology, Syed Mustafa Kamal, in a press conference on Tuesday, here at his office.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that ten free IT awareness centres would be opened in Kashmore, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Hyderabad and Latifabad, Thatta and some areas of Karachi as part of his department’s ongoing drive of achieving the target of 800 free IT centres.

The centres are aimed at providing facilities of free information technology courses to poor students who are unable to buy computer or acquire IT education due to lack of resources, he added.

Mr Kamal said that latest computers along with internet facility were assembled at these centres.

He clarified that such centres would only develop IT awareness among the students and would not award any diploma or certificate.

Mr Kamal said some 35 IT centres were already working in various districts of Sindh while expense of each centre was Rs20,000 per month.

He hoped that the target of 800 free IT awareness centres in Sindh would be achieved by 2007. —PPI
