SHEIKHUPURA, June 27: Angry villagers set fire to the Ajniawala police post, 30 kilometres from here, on Monday night after police released a blasphemy accused. According to police, a ‘deranged’ man, Mazharul Haq alias Gogi, desecrated the Holy Quran. The villagers caught him but police freed him after realizing that he was ‘mentally retarded’.

However, charged villagers gathered outside the police post and torched it, burning the furniture and records.

A police contingent was called from Sheikhupura, which brought the situation under control.—Correspondent
