LAHORE: LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq reached superannuation on Monday after serving in the judiciary for eight years. He was elevated to the high court in March 2010 and took oath as its 47th chief justice on Oct 23. As per tradition, a full-court reference was held to pay tribute to the outgoing chief justice.

Speaking at the reference, chief justice-designate Sardar Muhammad Shamim lauded the services of Justice Haq during his nine-week stint as the chief justice.

Punjab Advocate General Ahmad Awais, Prosecutor General Ehtesham Qadir Shah, and federal and provincial law officers also spoke at the reference.

Justice Shamim will take oath of his office as the 48th chief justice of LHC in a ceremony at the Governor House on Tuesday (today).

Our correspondent from Rahim Yar Khan adds: Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Ahmed Khan belongs to a rural area of Rahim Yar Khan. His uncle, Abdul Aziz Sardar, told Dawn that Justice Khan was born on Jan 1, 1958 in Dondonoat near Taranda Muhammad Pannah town of Liaquatpur tehsil, some 90 kilometres from here.

His father Sardar Elahi Bakhsh was an agriculturist. Sardar Shamim received his early education from Government High School in Taranda Muhammad Pannah and later did matriculation from Government Abbasia High School in Bahawalpur.

He completed his FSc from Forman Christian College in Lahore, bachelors degree from SE College Bahawalpur and Master’s in Political Science and law graduation from SM Law College in Karachi.

Justice Khan joined the LHC on Feb 19, 2010.
