ISLAMABAD, June 25: Pakistan will be represented by two boys and three girls at the FINA World swimming championship to be held at Montreal (Canada) from July 17. Imdad and Aziz will figure in the men’s competitions while Kiran Khan, Rubab Raza and Sana Wahid will make the splash in the ladies swimming pool.

“Imdad will be in the fray for 100 and 200 metres backstroke events while Aziz will be there in the 50, 100 and 200 metres free- style,” according to Maj. Wasim of Pakistan Swimming Federation.

“The girls will compete in freestyle and breaststroke events but the exact events for them to participate in will be determined on arrival in Montreal,” he said.

He said the world championship would be held from July 17 to Aug 3 but actual swimming events will commence from July 25 and before that, events like synchronised swimming would take place.

“Hence our late departure,” Maj. Wasim said of the world event being held under the aegis of World Swimming Federation (FINA).—APP
