KARACHI, June 25: Karachi Bridge Association (KBA) would launch “suspense bridge,” a new kind of competition in duplicate bridge next Tuesday in a bid to popularize the game, says a news release on Saturday.

KBA has devised the new movement to bring back the players who were giving up the game due to lack of partnerships and unavailability of dependable players.

The entire movement, designed by Syed Ameer Hasan, is spread over three phases, in which all the participants enter as an individual. The pairing then enters as an individual and will be settled by draw of the card.

All the participants in this new movement will be required to play one bidding system. Players have shown great interest in experimenting the new movement and Marathon has consented to sponsor it.

The KBA, in the meantime, announced results of Friday pairs.

All the 32 pairs were placed in two houses. From the senior’s section, Asghar Naqvi-Nasir Ahmed Khan won with 66.60 per cent, just a hairline difference from their nearest rivals, Ibrahim Baig-Iqbal Hyder 66.07 per cent.

The veteran pair of Ghaffar Qureshi-Naseem Arzoo occupied third spot with 57.14 per cent.

Ziaullah Baig-Hamid Mohiuddin occupied the pride of places in the second house with a score of 60.19 per cent followed by Mazhar Ali Khan-K K Suri 58.27 per cent and Shahab Saeed-Wazir Durrani 57.88 per cent.—APP
