KARACHI: Karachi University (KU) has stated that it has no concern whatsoever with a Facebook page seeking Rs500 registration fee for a conference titled ‘Flat Earth’.

“The university makes it clear that the page publicising this seminar at KU’s Arts Auditorium on Jan 11, 2019, is misleading. Students and the general public are advised to ignore the post and that the university would not be responsible for any financial loss,” says a press release.

It also warned of taking legal action against those involved in the fraud and asked people to contact students’ adviser office before getting themselves registered for any KU event.

The relevant page also bears a contact number for registration.

New PSBMB members

The Pakistan Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB) has chosen former KU vice chancellor Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Dr Shamshad Zarina and Dr Anwar Ali from Pakistan and Dr Soroush Sardari from Drug Design and Bioinformatics Unit of Medical Biotechnology Department at Pasteur Institute of Iran, as their fellow members.

These nominations were announced during the fourth and last day of 14th biennial conference on molecular biosciences, research and innovation.

The event was organised by the society and KU’s Dr A.Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE).

These decisions were made public in a general body meeting of the society which was held before the concluding session of the scientific conference.

Waheed Akhtar, the PSBMB general secretary, presented the summary of the conference and announced the names of new fellows which were approved by the council.
