PESHAWAR, June 24: President of the provincial chapter of the Awami National Party (ANP) Bashir Ahmed Bilour has expressed concern over what he termed government’s indifference to the devastation caused by flood in the NWFP.

He said the level of rivers Swat and Kabul had increased alarmingly and in many villages floodwater had inundated houses and destroyed crops.

Mr Bilour said people experienced a harsh winter with heavy snowfall and now they were faced with another devastating situation, said a press release issued by the Bacha Khan Markaz on Friday.

He demanded that the federal government should provide financial support to flood victims.

He also criticized the provincial government for not taking steps to control the situation.

The ANP chief asked the federal government to send experts to assess the damage caused to crops and recommend compensation.

The government should take notice of the situation, as it was an indication that if floods could inundate the villages of the province, construction of Kalabagh dam could wash away the entire province.

He demanded that the affected people should be provided interest-free loans and other support.
