ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal on Wednesday said that a few corrupt people had initiated a witch-hunt against the bureau to avoid accountability but people have rejected them.

Addressing a seminar on ‘Our Faith, Corruption Free Pakistan’ at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), the NAB chairman said some people had become owners of plazas in Dubai in no time.

He said that the bureau would ascertain the source of their income.

Justice Javed Iqbal further said that NAB would chase the corrupt everywhere in the world and would not let them go scot-free.

Says the bureau is working for across-the-board accountability

He said corruption was mother of all evils and a major hurdle to the country’s prosperity.

He reiterated his resolve that NAB would not be selective in accountability.

“Corruption is mother of all evils and the bureau takes it as a national duty to root out corruption,” he said, adding that NAB was actively working for across-the-board accountability and as many as 400 references had been filed by the bureau.

The chairman said Pakistan had improved its ranking from 160 to 107 in corrupt countries list.

Responding to a question from a student, he said 59pc Pakistanis were satisfied with the performance of NAB.

Addressing on the occasion, IIUI Rector Dr Masoom Yasinzai suggested include eradication of corruption in the light of Islamic teachings in the curriculum.

The rector stressed that youth must be sensitised to the menace of corruption as it was a global issue and educational institutions should contribute to defeating it.

Dr Mohammad Tahir Khalily, Vice President IIUI, thanked the NAB chairman for participating in the seminar and vowed to arrange such activities in future as well.

The event was also attended by DG NAB Mohammad Altaf Bawanny, IIUI Acting President Dr Aqdas Naveed Malik, IIUI Vice President Dr Mohammad Munir, directors, teachers and students.
