QUETTA: Eleven jails in Balochistan are facing serious water shortage, causing immense difficulties to prisoners.
Inspector General Prisons Shujauddin Kasi said that around 11 prisons in the province, including the Quetta district jail, had been without water for a long time, adding that due to the shortage they had no other option but to purchase water from private suppliers.
“We are purchasing water on a daily basis for inmates as the water crisis is increasing with every passing day in all jails. There is no water for 400 prisoners in Gadani jail,” IG Kasi said, adding that immediate measures were required to resolve the issue.
