LARKANA, June 23: Growers took out a procession in Warah town on Thursday to protest against shortage of water. Led by Warah Taluka Nazim Manzoor Ahmad Cholyani and Abdul Khaliq Bughio, the protestors raised slogans against irrigation officials. They accused the officials of selling water, depriving growers at tail-end areas of channels of their water share.
Later, they staged a sit-in outside the press club.
Speaking on the occasion, they said Mirwah, Punna Shakh, Hamid Minor, Naseer Shakh, Panhwaro, Kanwar and other channels were facing water shortage.
They said they had been complaining to the irrigation officials about water shortage but to no avail.
They said they would not be able to cultivate their lands if water was not released into the channels.
They said their paddy nurseries had dried due to shortage of water. They said their cattle were also dying.
Later, the protestors assembled outside the local irrigation office and chanted slogans against the irrigation officials.
They demanded release of water into channels originating from the Rice Canal and the Warah Canal.
HR SYLLABUS: The Juvenile Justice Ordinance, 2000, and human rights should be included in the syllabus of police training institutes.
This was observed by national coordinator on bonded labour Iqbal Detho, child rights committee district coordinator Mukhtiar Samo, Larkana City ASP Irfan Baloch and others at a seminar at the Police Training School in Larkana on Thursday.
Mr Detho, who is also the general secretary of the Amnesty International, Pakistan chapter, regretted that only three probation officers were working in Sindh while probation officers should be appointed in each district to resolve juvenile prisoners’ problems.
