KARACHI, June 23: The Supreme Court refused on Thursday leave to appeal against dismissal by the Sindh High Court of a petition seeking disqualification of Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh as a member of the Sindh Assembly.

A bench, comprising Justices Rana Bhagwandas and Saiyed Saeed Ashhad, questioned the locus standi of appellant Moulvi Iqbal Haider, who had nothing to do with the matter agitated by him. The appellant said the MPA had property abroad, which he concealed while filing a declaration of his assets with the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Advocate Raja Qureshi, who had entered a caveat on the MPA’s behalf, submitted that his client had been filing tax returns.

The property he purchased in London was disposed by him before the 2002 general election. He could not possibly be charged with concealing assets that had been sold by him.
