HYDERABAD, June 23: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that the old Sabzi Mandi will soon be shifted to its new site and provided with a road through the Detho area for orderly passage of vehicles. Speaking to journalists at the press club here on Thursday, the DCO said that the district government was also preparing a scheme to shift Anaj Mandi as well as wholesale markets in the Market Tower area outside the city to relieve the people of chaotic traffic conditions.

In the next fiscal year, the district government had allocated Rs70 million under the District Development Programme to build new roads in the outskirts of the city to reduce traffic load on the National Highway and other arteries of the city, he claimed.

He said that the old problems of the city, such as reconstruction of the roads of the Makki Shah, Safaraz and Pathan colonies, were also being resolved.

The sewerage problem in Qasimabad was being resolved, work on which would be completed in the next 12 days, he said, claiming that there would be no sewerage problem for at least 10 to 15 years.

Maintaining that new roads were being considered to reduce traffic load, he said that a dual-carriage road along the Kotri Barrage embankment had been planned, while the Channel Mori road was being widened. A road along the Akram Wah, with trees and motels, was also being considered, which would connect the National Highway with the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road, he added.

He said that the first-ever flyover between Hyderabad and Latifabad would be built over the railway crossing, and followed by another on the Wadhu Wah road.

About water shortage, he insisted that it was because of upgrading work at the water works as well as irregular power supply in the city. Presenting a cheque of Rs100,000 for the press club, he pledged to ensure regular allocation for the club in the district budget.
