Bugti’s brother dies

QUETTA, June 22: Mir Ahmed Nawaz Khan Bugti, younger brother of Nawab Akbar Bugti and first finance minister of Balochistan, died in Karachi on Wednesday. He was 70. According to reports reaching here, Mr Bugti had gone to his bedroom last night and was found dead on Wednesday morning. It is believed that he died of heart attack.

His body will be flown to Sui from Karachi on Thursday. He will be buried in his native town Dera Bugti.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousuf is leaving for Dera Bugti on Thursday to attend the funeral.

Mir Ahmed Nawaz Bugti started his political career with the defunct National Awami Party (NAP) and was elected member of the first Balochistan Assembly in 1970.

He was inducted as finance minister in Balochistan’s first cabinet headed by Sardar Ataullah Mengal in 1972. He was also elected MNA from Dera Bugti in the non-party elections of 1985. He served as federal minister in the caretaker government of Mir Balakh Sher Mazari in 1993.—Staff Correspondent
