QUETTA, June 21: Power supply to a vast area in Barkhan and Kohlu districts was disrupted when two electric towers were blown up on Tuesday. According to sources, some people planted explosives around towers No.23 and 24 of the 132kv Rakhni-Barkhan transmission line and exploded them. Both the towers were damaged and power supply to a vast area was suspended, they said.

Sources in the Quetta Electricity Supply Company said the replacement of the towers would begin on Thursday and take at least one week. Engineers and other staff had been despatched to the area, they said.

“Over Rs1 million will be spent on installing new towers,” a Qesco spokesman said, adding that the company would suffer revenue loss of millions of rupees. Unknown people attacked a Frontier Corps camp in Mand with automatic weapons on Monday night.
