LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday stayed operation against alleged illegal houses situated in Bagh Gul Begum, a locality adjacent to Miani Sahib Graveyard.

Justice Shahid Waheed passed the stay order on a petition moved by Syed Amin Zahir challenging the proposed demolition operation by Miani Sahib Graveyard Committee.

Representing the petitioner, Advocate Safdar Shaheen Pirzada argued that the petitioner was a lawful owner of the property purchased by his forefathers even before the creation of Pakistan.

He stated the committee was going to launch its operation against the residents of Bagh Gul Begum area on Thursday (today) whereas an appeal against the order of the operation issued by another judge was pending before the Supreme Court.

The counsel asked the court to restrain the Miani Sahib Graveyard Committee from demolishing houses of the petitioner and other lawful residents.

Allowing the request, Justice Waheed stayed the operation against the alleged encroachers and directed the office to fix the petition for further hearing before the judge already seized with the matter.
