PESHAWAR: A soldier was martyred and another suffered wounds in a roadside bomb explosion in the Dattakhel area of North Waziristan district near Afghan border on Monday.

A curfew was imposed and a search operation was launched in Miramshah and Mirali, two of the three subdivisions of North Waziristan district, following the blast.

Officials said that the bomb was detonated by remote control near a vehicle while it was passing through Tang Kali.

As a result of the explosion, soldier Mohammad Tahir died on the spot while another soldier Mohammad Khan was wounded.

Security forces shifted the body and the injured soldier to a hospital.

No arrest was made during the search that continued till late evening.

Meanwhile, announcements were made through loudspeakers in Miramshah and Mirali, asking residents to stay indoor.

Education institutions and business activities remained closed during the curfew hours.
