TRANSPORT FARES: The civil society and traders on Sunday demanded of the district administration here to fix new transport fares in the light of recent surge in petroleum prices. They condemned the unilateral increase in fares by the transporters on local and inter-district routes.

The demand came in a joint meeting of Khattak Ittehad and Anjuman-i-Tajiran, Karak city, held here with KI president Khursheed Sultan in the chair. The meeting expressed concern over the unprecedented increase in oil prices and said that the district administration had failed to check the unlawful increase in the fares.

The participants asked the relevant authorities to call an immediate meeting of the transporters and fix new fares for local and inter-district routes in the light of recent increase in oil prices. The meeting also demanded of the government to cut oil prices after its reduction in international market.
