KARACHI, June 19: Former champion jockey Shafi Mohammad was in the limelight once again after an extremely long break, when he rode home a brace of winners at the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting held on Sunday afternoon at the Karachi Racecourse.

Shafi partnered Miss Maree beating nearest rival Rahil Prince by 11 lengths in the fourth event with plenty to spare.

Then riding Butter Fly also Shafi won the last event beating Hassena-e-Arab.

Both the winners were trained by veteran Allah Judrio.

But the handling of Arab Hi Arab in the concluding event by Ghulam Shabbir II left much to be desired. He did not put out his best astride his mount which allowed Blue Breeze to grab the third slot.

A few weeks ago Ghulam Shabbir II never allowed his mount Haseena–e-Arab run on merit finishing off the board in a race which was won by Patricia, but yet the following week with a riding boy astride, Haseena-e-Arab won like a champion.

The same can be said about Ghulam’s performance on Arab Hi Arab, yet once again he got off scot free.

Royal Wisdom ridden by Faiz Mohammad won the opening event by 1 ½ lengths from the fast appearing Ghori and top weight Piyari Mehbooba. In a small field of six runners, Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s Royal Loyalty picked up the spoils from King Of the Field.

Edward Chou was also among the winning owners, when Street Fighter smartly ridden by Fahim Karim, won the next event by one and a half lengths from Silver Sweet.

Owner trainer M. Yaqoob Butt was once again on the winning trail when Order Of The Day partnered by M. Alam won the five furlong sprint from Sonia.
