Private schools defy govt orders

SWABI, June 19: Owners of private schools have refused to comply with the government order to close their schools for summer vacation. People have demanded that the schools should be closed forthwith for summer as the temperature was rising. They said that the private schools lacked facilities to accommodate students in the harsh weather.

Many parents said that it did not serve any purpose that the children were asked to attend the schools from 7am to 10am.

The government primary schools were closed for summer on June 1, while other educational institutions had declared vacation from June 10.

SPEED-BREAKERS: People in the area have created ‘speed-breakers’ by digging roads at different places but the authorities concerned have not taken any action in this regard.

Police had recently levelled speed bumps built on the roads but now people have started digging the roads so that the ditches force the drivers to slow down their vehicles and it is difficult for the authorities to fill those.

There are a number of such ditches on the Swabi-Topi, Topi-Tarbela Dam, Topi-Ghazi, Swabi-Mardan, Swabi-Jehangira, Swabi-Zaida, Zaida-Topi and other roads.

The Frontier Highway Authority has not lodge cases against the people who have damaged the roads and created problems for commuters.

Transporters say that no one can build a speed-breaker or dig a road without permission from the FHA but the authorities concerned were not taking any action against the violation of the law.

The roads dug by the Pakistan Telecommunication Company for laying cables have also not been repaired. A PTCL official said the company had deposited the amount required for the repair to the FHA.
