KARACHI, June 19: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal while claiming that the pre-polls lawlessness in the city was aimed at postponing the coming local bodies’ elections, has demanded action against those involved in creating law and order problems and indulged in target killings.

This was observed by MMA leaders during a protest rally outside the Karachi Press Club on Sunday. Hafiz Muhammad Taqi and Yunus Barai spoke.

Participants of the rally were holding banners and placards with slogans against the desecration of the Holy Quran by US soldiers at the Guantánamo Bay, and the killing of Aslam Mujahid and Jamal Tahir.

The speakers said authorities were not ready to register an FIR against those nominated in Aslam Mujahid’s murder. Demanding the arrests of their killers and their patrons, they vowed to continue their struggle until their arrest.

Condemning the desecration of the Holy Quran by US soldiers at the Guantánamo Bay, they flayed Muslim rulers for their criminal silence over the tragedy. “We will not rest until those responsible for the Holy Quran’s desecration were taken to task.”

They MMA leaders claimed that fair and free polls would be impossible with the present administration in power.

Meanwhile, MMA MPAs Nasrullah Khan Shajjee, Hameedullah Khan and Muhammad Yunus Barai in a separate statement condemned the murder of senior member of the Karachi Stock Exchange Amanullah Marfai.

They observed that despite the government’s tall claims of restoring peace in the city, target killings were order of the day, proving that the government had failed miserably in restoring law and order.

They asked as to who would make investment if businessmen and traders were being killed.
