COLOMBO, June 18: Sri Lanka’s main Muslim party said on Saturday that it would be difficult for it to support the president’s joint mechanism with the Tamil Tigers (LTTE) for tsunami relief distribution unless Muslim concerns were addressed.
Rauff Hakeem, chief of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), told reporters that Muslims had been affected badly by the tsunami in the eastern province.
He said his party would not assist the government in aid distribution unless it took care of the Muslims’ reservations on an LTTE role.
