QUETTA: A police constable was shot dead in Nawan Killi area of the provincial capital on Thursday.

According to police, Constable Musa Achakzai was going to Brewery police station for his duty when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him. The constable received multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot.

After receiving information about the incident, members of law enforcement agencies rushed to the area and took the body to the Civil Hospital.

“The gunmen attacked the police constable near a graveyard when he was going to Brewery police station for his duty. Initial investigations suggest it was an incident of target killing,” the SHO of Zarghoonabad police station said.

He said an FIR had been registered in the CTD police station.

According to media reports, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, the body of the constable was brought to the Quetta Police Lines where his funeral prayers were offered. The body was later sent to the deceased’s home for burial.
