Zaeem condemns action

LAHORE, June 17: New Punjab PML-N secretary-general Zaeem Husain Qadri on Friday condemned the Punjab Assembly speaker’s action against various opposition lawmakers, alleging that he was trampling the Constitution and encouraging the turncoats.

At a news conference here, he said the speaker was trying to humiliate the PML-N to please his masters. His party would approach all democratic forces to prepare a schedule for protests against the speaker, he added.

He said other parties’ cooperation would also be sought for a no-confidence motion against the speaker.

The PML-N leader said his party would protest in both houses of parliament and the provincial legislatures against the PA speaker.

Mr Qadri said it was ridiculous that the apology tendered by Rana Sanaullah Khan had not been accepted by the speaker.

He said the speaker’s action had established that there was no democracy in the country.

PML-N’s Rana Mashood, who has also been expelled from the house, said action against him had been taken because he was preparing a no-trust motion against the speaker.

He said in the presence of Mr Sahi, the house could not work smoothly.

MONITORING COMMITTEE: PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif has set up a monitoring committee which will review preparations made for the local elections.

It will be headed by Zulfiqar Khosa.
