PESHAWAR: The government has appointed Dr Arshad Ahmed Khan as the new director general health services, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a notification issued here on Monday.
Dr Ahmed, a BPS-20 management cadre officer currently serving as director general Provincial Health Services Academy, will replace Dr Ayub Rose, who was appointed in November last year.
The newly-appointed DG, a graduate of Khyber Medical College, has been working on different administrative positions in health department for last 31 years.
The government initiated a summary to appoint him a month ago but faced some delays due to good performance of the current director general.
His appointment is seen an effort to implement the health reforms programme of the provincial government.
Sources said Dr Ayub Rose is likely to challenge his removal in court on the basis of non-fulfillment of stipulated tenure on the top administrative post.
Summary to replace Dr Ayub Rose was kept at the Chief Minister secretariat for a month as there was no charge against him, sources said.
New DG health, the sources said had been appointed at the behest of health minister who wanted to place a person of his choice to take forward his government’s reforms agenda.
