SHEIKHUPURA, June 17: A wheel-jam strike was observed in Safdarabad and some other localities on Friday against the notification of Sangla Hill’s status as tehsil headquarters of Nankana Sahib.
The protest against the government’s decision of divesting Safdarabad of the THQ status has gained momentum in last few days.
The protesters also took out a rally whose participant, PML MPA Rai Ijaz Ahmad, threatened that he would resign if the government did not withdraw the notification. Some union council nazims, naib nazims and councillors also pledged to quit.
Trade centres remained closed as their strike had been going on for the last few days.
Meanwhile, a strike was observed also in Sharqpur Sharif and its adjoining areas to press the Punjab government for cancellation of its notification of Muridke’s upgradation as THQ.
The protesters demanded that the authorities concerned should make Sharqpur the THQ of Sheikhupura and it should not be made part of Nankana Sahib.
KILLED: A man was killed while his two sons and a passerby injured in an assault at Chak 12, Garmola, in Nankana Sahib Saddar police station area on Friday.
According to reports, Younis and Pervez Mustafa had quarrelled a couple of days ago over canal water dispute. On Friday, Younis and his two sons, Naveed and Anees, were at a shop when Pervez opened fire on them.
Younis died instantly while his sons and a passerby were injured. They were taken to hospital.
MEDICAL CAMP: A free medical camp will be organized by the Human Rights Forum on Sunday.
The camp will be set up at the Government High School, Ghazi Minara, from 9am to 3pm. Lahore High Court judge Munir Mughal (retired) and founder of Mussawar Foundation Munir Nolakha will be chief guests.
