LIVERPOOL: Two late goals by Everton substitutes brought the Merseysiders a third successive win when they beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Goodison Park in Sunday’s only Premier League game.

Ademola Lookman set up the first one in the 87th minute for another substitute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin to head in and the third replacement, Cenk Tosun, scored two minutes later.

Palace had missed a chance to take the lead when Serbian international Luka Milivojevic’s penalty was saved by Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Wilfried Zaha, passed fit after missing an Ivory Coast international in midweek, had won the penalty when he was clipped by Seamus Coleman.

The miss meant Crystal Palace have scored only five goals in nine games, the second worst record in the Premier League.

Everton moved up three places to eighth, Palace dropping to 15th.

SALAH FIRES LIVERPOOL

In Saturday’s late game, Mohamed Salah rediscovered his scoring touch for Liverpool to ensure his team kept pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.

With just his second goal since August, Salah broke his mini scoring drought in Liverpool’s laboured 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town as Jurgen Klopp’s side moved onto 23 points, level with City but behind on goal difference.

Salah is unlikely to repeat his scoring exploits from last season, when he netted 44 in all competitions, 32 coming in the Premier League to leave him as the top scorer.

But four goals in nine games is still a decent return for the Egypt forward, his latest coming when he ran onto Xherdan Shaqiri’s through-ball and slotted a right-footed finish into the bottom corner midway through the first half.
