LARKANA, June 17: Acute shortage of irrigation water would render thousands of acres of land uncultivated in Warah and Gaji Khuhawar of Qambar district. This was stated by Manzoor Chandio, Nazim of the Warah Union Council, here on Friday.

He said that half of the length of Nawab Shakh, Punna Shakh and Panhwaro was dried up adding that the growers at the tail-end were even not able to prepare paddy nurseries due to water shortage in the area.

He alleged that the irrigation officials seldom listen to their grievances who, he alleged, sell water.

He said that water courses originating from Warah Canal had been broken and tampered with by the influential in connivance with the irrigation officials.

He said that the gates of three regulators — Salar, Madeji and Hakim Shah were being closed only to cultivate irrigation officials’ land in the belt.

The end sufferers would be the growers and small khatedars, he added.

Anwar Cholyani, the Nazim of Union Council from Gaji Khuawar told this correspondent that Mirwah, Khuhawar Shakh and Nawab Shakh, irrigating thousands of acres of land in his UC, were without water.
