KARACHI: Former PML-N Senator Syed Nehal Hashmi, who previously faced imprisonment for his controversial remarks against the judiciary, on Friday criticised the armed forces while defending the role of politicians in the development of the country.
The politician, addressing a function at the Karachi Medical and Dental College, alleged that the armed forces had “done nothing for the defence and betterment of the country” and that the weapons acquired for the defence were “merely showpieces”.
Soon after television channels had broadcast news reports about Mr Hashmi’s hard-hitting speech, the PML-N launched a damage control exercise and dissociated from what the former senator had said about the military.
Senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said that Mr Hashmi’s statement had nothing to do with the party and reflected his personal views.
“Mr Hashmi has been expelled from the PML-N, so the party cannot take any action against him,” he said. “He was sacked after he refused to step down as a senator on party orders over the statement that he made against the judiciary. One may disagree with state institutions but this is not the way to register a protest.”

With such self-appointed ‘guardians of democracy’ such as this treasonous has-been, Pakistan doesn’t need to worry about external enemies.
It’s a disgraceful statement from someone who has sacrificed nothing and it’s an insult to the memory of thousands of servicemen and women who gave their lives to protect / safeguard the country.

Fact: From 2008 onwards the civilians are govening in Pakistan,however
Both parties: Politicians and military have been enjoying power since independence.
Their Achievements: Huge loans, population is exploding but food resources are shrinking and also no basic health..etc..the list of their failures is quite long. They really need to stop fighting and start doing something good for the poor people of this country!

@Shafiq Shah I am sure your you are aware that Pak Forces is not a compulsory military service army. It is a mercenary army in which people join on their free will to adopt a career. Death and injury is the hazard of the profession. People of Pakistan hire the armed forces to protect the borders of their country. Yes Pak Forces laid their lives to protect Pakistan but they were paid for it.

@ABCD yes politicians have done much more than military, by looting the taxpayers money, mega corruption,killing the political opponents, land grabbing and money laundering of billions of dollars owed from IMF, world bank & ADB as loans, to be paid by the taxpayers of the country.

People who is blaming democracy defies logic. Democracy replicates the mood and mindset of the masses unlike monarchy. Everyone claim that have sacrifice their lives for Pakistan for the past 70 years and blame to each year for the past 70 years. Each individual should see inside what they have given to Pakistan Are we honest are we loyal to Pakistan ? Do we start work on time and finish on time. Do we look for short cut or unfair means for petty work. Do we produce pure food for people justify for yourself than blame others. Easy to point out fingers on others but difficult to accept the reality.

@Shafiq Shah - As per the GDP, Pakistan is 41st in the world and as per military power, we are 6th in the world! This is the only reason why we had to go to IMF for 19 times for bailout! If we don’t reduce our military expenses drastically, there is no doubt we will go to IMF again for the 20 th time!

PML-N says they are not responsible for Hashmi's statements, because he has been kicked out of the party. So, I think the best thing is to kick him out of circulation, into jail. or somewhere far away, so that nobody needs to be responsible for what he says or does. Make him a "has been"!!
