LAHORE, June 16: The Punjab Assembly speaker on Thursday banned for 15 days entry of PML-N parliamentary leader Rana Sanaullah and another MPA of the party into the house which adopted a resolution, condemning ‘indecent’ remarks made by Sanaullah during budget debate.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi endorsed the speaker’s decision, saying it would uphold sanctity of the house, but the opposition stayed away from rest of the house proceedings to express solidarity with Sanaullah.

Speaker Afzal Sahi said he had unwillingly taken the decision because ‘the treasury benches are not ready to accept anything less than that.’

“Had I not done so, they (treasury benches) will not have allowed me to run the house,” he added.

The opposition parties are holding a joint meeting on Friday to devise a strategy for protesting against what they called the illegal, unjustified and unprecedented action of the speaker.
