SWABI, Jan 10: District Naib Nazim Mohammad Jamil said on Thursday that three women health projects (WHPs) would be launched in the current year in district Swabi with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank.

He said 20 districts of the country had been selected where the WHPs would be launched.

According to the strategy, he said such projects would be launched in eight districts of the Punjab province and four each in Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan.

He said details of these projects had been thrashed out at a meeting attended by director generals of health of all provinces, some district Nazims, project directors and officials of the Asian Bank a few days ago.

He said the main purpose of the WHPs was to provide adequate health facilities to womenfolk and their children and an easy access to the health centres to provide timely treatment to them.

In NWFP, he said four districts - Shangla, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan and Swabi - have been selected for the WHPS. All arrangements for the launching of these projects were in the final stage and consultation with the district government was under way.

In district Swabi, Mohammad Jamil said, the WHPs would be launched one each in Marghuz, Tehsil Chotta Lahore and a special department would be set up for women in the under construction Shahmansoor Complex Hospital while the District Headquarters Hospital will be converted into a women hospital after completion of hospital complex.

He said allout efforts would be made to provide adequate health facilities to all the residents of the district, specially the women and to achieve this purpose all available sources would be utilized.

GIRLS COLLEGE: A girls college would be set up in Topi area soon, said a government official.

He said the provincial governor has already made an announcement in this regard.

The official said that degree colleges for girls had already been established in Maneri, tehsil Chotta Lahore and Marghuz but there was no girls college in the densely-populated area of Topi. The college would be located at such a place which would make it easy for the girl students from Gadoon to reach it.

He said the district government had also been working for the establishment of another college in Kernal Sher Kili while construction of a government degree college for boys in Yar Hussain would start soon.
