LONDON: Mr. Churchill made a statement today [Oct 14] about the possibility of a debate in the House of Commons on the Indian food situation.

When Mr. Arthur Greenwood (Labour) asked him if it would be possible at an early to arrange such a debate Mr. Churchill replied, “We have got a good deal of business before we rise at the end of the session, and I should be more inclined to thinking it would be more convenient … to have the debate, which certainly should take place, in the new session. All measures that can be taken to alleviate are being taken but these measures will take some time to put into operation. But as I say Government will endeavour as much as possible to follow the wish of the House.”

Mr. Greenwood said: “I do think this is a matter of urgent and definite public importance, and to postpone it to the next session which is a little time away, is unduly delaying an important discussion.” Mr. Churchill replied, “We shall do our best to try and find a day before we separate.”
