PHA gardeners plant saplings under the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign on Tuesday. — APP

RAWALPINDI: Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) on Tuesday planted 1,200 saplings on the greenbelt along G.T. Road under Clean and Green Pakistan programme.

Minister of State for Communication Murad Saeed was the chief guest while National Highways Authority Chairman Jawad Raffique Malik, PHA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that all the citizens should create awareness of clean and green environment particularly among the students.

He said the government had started plantation and cleanliness campaign to protect the country from environmental degradation.

He said the government departments were directed to plant maximum saplings with the help and cooperation of the civil society, officials and students during the campaign.

Our correspondent adds from Taxila: Member Punjab assembly Ammar Sadeeq Khan formally inaugurated the Clean and Green Punjab programme in Taxila by planting a sapling at Tehisl Municipal Complex on Tuesday.

Assistant Commissioner Sidra Anwar, Municipal Committee Chief Officer Malik Khurrum Iftikhar, tehsil officer Finance Mian Mohammad Usman and officials of forest department, TMA and students of various educational institutions were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion MPA Ammar Sadeeq Khan said Clean and Green Pakistan drive launched in all major cities across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the assistant commissioner said that Clean and Green Punjab programme would be implemented in letter and spirit across the union councils of the city and strict monitoring in this regard would be ensured.

She said all out resources would be utilised to make the programme a success.

She said that cleanliness of villages, tree plantation and anti-encroachment drive was part of the programme. A walk was organised on this occasion to create awareness among people about importance and significance of cleanliness.
