CHITRAL: Aga Khan Education Service (AKES) general manager retired Brig Khosh Mohammad has said that the progress and prosperity of Chitral depend on development of human resource for which quality education is essential.

Speaking at a function held in connection with the Teachers’ Appreciation Day here on Sunday, he said that the teachers working in AKES schools were known for their excellence in quality education and realising this fact they were rewarded with cash prizes and bonuses on yearly basis.

“The more we spend on improvement of education, the more dividends we will receive and our future will be brightened,” he said.

The AKES GM said that in Chitral there was no other source of making progress other than developing and harnessing the human resource through education in diverse fields and disciplines. He said that the students from AKES schools had been joining leading institutions of the country for higher education.

He said that the performance of all the 370 teachers was monitored throughout the academic year and grading was based on performance management and reward system. He said that 193 teachers were given cash prizes and bonuses of different amounts ranging from Rs25,000 to Rs75,000. Another such function was held earlier in AKES Higher Secondary School for Boys.

A beneficiary of AKES, Dr Tajuddin Sharar, said on the occasion that it was the organisation which enabled him to earn PhD degree on ‘global education’ by providing him with a scholarship. Prof Shamsun Nizar Fatimiand Hakeem Ali advocate also emphasised the need for quality education.

They appreciated AKES for introducing quality education in Chitral with focus on the accessibility of education to girls in the far-flung areas.
