PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed concern over the delay in completion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and urged the government to compensate the businessmen who have suffered huge losses.

The demand was made by SCCI president Zahidullah Shinwari while speaking at a meeting at the chamber on Friday. He said the last provincial government had promised to complete the project within a stipulated period of six months but it could not be completed even in one year.

The BRT, he said had become headache for the business community as many of the traders faced irreparable financial losses due to the slow pace of work, but the government had so far not paid a single penny to them as compensation. He said it was duty of the government to give priority to the mega project which had created serious problems for the people of entire province in general and for Peshawarites in particular.

“We will not sit silent any longer and will raise voice against the delay in completion of the mega project and for compensation of the losses,” Mr Shinwari warned and demanded of Prime Minister Imran Khan to take notice of the public agonies and order early completion of the project.
