Sindh ranking junior squash in quarter-final stage
KARACHI: Interesting matches were witnessed as all the winners of boys’ under-13, under-15 and under-19 categories qualified for the quarter-finals in the JS Bank Sindh ranking junior squash championship which got into action at the PSF Jahangir Khan Squash Academy, PSB Coaching Centre the other day.
Organisers said a healthy trend was observed as over 100 entries of boys and girls were received for the event.
Meanwhile, Sonia Salman, Hareem, Maheen and Alina Zehra have made it to the last four in the girls under-15 event.

Karachi women basketball team named
KARACHI: Karachi women basketball team was named here on Thursday for participation in the National Women Basketball Championship which will be held in Islamabad from Sept 30 to Oct 4 at the PCB Sports Complex, Islamabad. Rija Safdar of Neighbourhood Club, district South, will captain the 12-member squad while Hurraina Sajjad is her deputy.
The team was announced by KBBA president Ghulam Muhammad in consultation with the selection committee headed by Muhammad Yaqoob.
Other Members of the squad are Naziha Hasnain, Aisha Ijlal, Mira Saadul Hasan, Laiba Tabrez, Rafiq Khalid, Ameena Raza, Hareem Binte Faisal, Palwasheh Qureshi, Rosetta Turner, and Sameeha Saeeed.
Ex-international player Zahid Malik is the team manager while Zaeema Tariq is the coach. The team will depart for Islamabad on Friday.
Meanwhile, National Bank SVP Tariq bin Hanif distributed playing kits among the members of Karachi girls team and assured of NBP’s continued support for all sports in the country. He asked the team to observe discipline at all cost and display top skills during the national championship.
The KBBA officials later thanked ex-Test player Iqbal Qasim, the head of NBP sports division, for his and bank’s patronage for basketball and other sports.—Agencies
Lahore Blues take early honours
KARACHI: Inspired by solid contributions from Uzair Nasir, Ibtisam-ul-Haq and Zain Bin Farooq, Lahore Blues had the better of the first day play against Karachi Blues in the second game of triangular stage of the PCB Inter-region three-day tournament in Mirpur on Thursday.
After being asked to bat first at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium in Azad Jammu Kashmir, Lahore Blues posted 270-7 in the stipulated first-innings quota of 83 overs. Opener Ibtisam hit up a painstaking 53 off 148 balls before Uzair and Zain consolidate their team by putting on 97 for the seventh wicket.
Uzair remained unbeaten with a 123-ball 79 while Zain scored 56 off 54 balls. Slow left-armer Nadir Shah grabbed six wickets for 85 in 34 overs. By stumps Karachi Blues had collected 32-1 in 10 overs.
