Private schools directed to make Sindhi compulsory subject

KARACHI: Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Sindh’s minister for education and literacy, and secretary school education Qazi Shahid Pervaiz on Monday ordered the hiring of teachers in all private schools in the province so that Sindhi language can be widely taught.

The director general, directorate of inspection of private schools Dr Mansoob Hussain Siddiqui, has also sent letters to private schools that are not following the orders to immediately make Sindhi a compulsory subject.

It may be mentioned here that according to Form B of the Sindh Private Educational Institutions (Regulations and Control) Rules 2005, all educational institutions are required to teach children the Sindhi language. The order had come into effect after the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution, making Sindhi mandatory in schools from class three to nine.

Currently, Sindhi is being taught in all schools following the Matric system but schools following the Cambridge system are not teaching the language.

Dr Siddiqui said that all private schools that have not included Sindhi in either the syllabus or examinations are depriving their students of learning their provincial language. Therefore they have been requested to include Sindhi as a subject in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations. A team has been formulated to look into the implementation of the orders issued.

Well, since, Sindhi is also a rich language it won't hurt if our future leaders learn it, it shall also help grow inter-community harmony.

Is it anything to do with improving the standard of education in our schools, Government schools at least ? Learn a language, of course. If they learn Germany, French etc why not Sindhi. But the quality of education should get the preference.

Sindhi should be compulsory for all the schools from primary to higher secondary education, and in the same way urdu should be introduced through out Sindh for such classes. It is all the most necessary for the people living in Sindh to read, write and speak Sindhi, so that they can have affinity with their homeland. The private schools, which do not respect the law abiding them to introduce Sindhi in their schools, must be penalized and closed.

Providing jobs for teaching Sindhi language is only one side of the matter. Actually implementing this decision to ensure teaching the language to the children must be the overall objective. In colleges too, the employment of teachers for Sindhi language is a must. There are families which, including mother and father and son and daughter all are employed in different colleges as teachers of Sindhi language. Since it is not taught, all of them just come to sign their attendance registers in their respective colleges and go home or to their other work places.

Years back during late BB's tenure, hundreds of teachers were forced into private schools. Most of these teachers did know how to read & write. They could not even write their own name. The idea was to force private schools to pay salaries to these ignorant people for doing nothing. These are the people who are bought by PPP & become their permanent supporters. I would love to learn Sindhi language anytime.

What good is going to come from learning Sindhi. This just blows my mind. Instead, we should have more science, technology and other progressive courses for our kids.

As a matriculation student in Sind province, one has to learn and Give exam in Sindhi language. But Bravo to the souls and great minds that have designed the curriculum in such a way that student learns nothing except RATA, hundred of hour and resources are spends to teach non sindhi speakers to learn the language from class third to nine, yet the graduate cannot give one small answer or sentence from the knowledge learned. Greatest disrespect to the oldest language of region, by those claiming to be its custodian. This will be perhaps only language that is taught for 8 years continuously, and result is seen evident and shinning on the skill of every non sindhi speaker after 8 years of learning. Forcing private school to do the same, shows only the hidden ideas and evil minds behind this plan. Look busy, deliver nothing, claim to love Sind, do everything possible to destroy it. Create world record of teaching a language for 8 years with 0 success.

Why should Sindhi be taught in schools just because of Zardari!!!! Urdu is the only language that should be taught and focused on and Sindhi can be optional. PPP is so corrupt!!

Sindhi language has no place to be taught in schools, this a local dialect, like many others in Pakistan. Will add extra burden to childern, already struggling with Urdu, English, Arabic. Chinese might be language student should learn to expert level, will help communicate with major power.
