Auction of luxury vehicles of PM House: 61 cars sold

An auction of a fleet of 102 luxury and surplus vehicles kept at Prime Minister House in Islamabad is underway, with 61 vehicles sold so far, including five bulletproof vehicles. The auction of 21 vehicles has been cancelled.
According to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Twitter account, the auctioned vehicles include a reinforced Mercedes 2005 5,000cc model SUV which was sold for Rs14.5 million, while a reinforced Land Cruiser V8 was auctioned off for Rs27.4m.
The auction is a part of the PTI government's austerity measures. "A reminder that all this recovery will go back into serving the people of Pakistan under the PM's austerity drive. It is these efforts that will add up to a revolution in leadership mindset in Pakistan," PTI tweeted.
The vehicles to be sold included eight BMWs, three cars of 2014 model, three 5,000cc SUVs and two 3,000cc SUVs of 2016 model.
The list also contained four Mercedes Benz cars of the 2016 model. Two of them are 4,000cc bullet-proof vehicles.
There were 16 Toyota cars. One of which is 2004 Lexus car, one 2006 Lexus SUV and two 2004 Land Cruisers. Eight cars range from 2003 to 2013 models.
Apart from these, four bullet-proof Land Cruiser vehicles of 2015 model were also up for auction.
There is one Honda Civic 1,800cc car and three Suzuki vehicles, including two Cultus cars and one APV, all of them are of 2013 models. The list also includes a 1994 model Hino bus.

Certain section of our people will say "this will not make any difference", the thing is this is a great step by PM Imran Khan, why? Because he's showing us that he is committed to the people of Pakistan and will not live like a king like former premiers. The money generated from the auction will be spent on the taxpayers instead of being wasted on luxuries of our political class. Hope he also turns the massive PM and Presidential house into a research university which will prove much more beneficial. It is time that these elected representatives serve the nation instead of us serving them. Good job, PM Imran!

Government should ensure that latest models are sold at with a minimum price. If a cruiser can be sold for 27m people will be happy to pay twice the amount for BMWs and mercs. Similar normal models of reinforced Mercedes are priced at nearly Rupees 25m plus. With all options plus reinforced bodies you are looking at twice the amount.

First, there were 105 cars at the Prime ministers house in Islamabad? WOW. Basically the government of Pakistan along with the poor citizens likely lost at least half the money that was spent on purchasing these vehicles. The priorities of our previous governments is mind boggling, how can a poor country like Pakistan is able to spend billions on luxury and bullet proof cars yet cannot provide clean drinking water to its citizens.

I wonder less and regret more to say that Nawaz had very poor administrative team to be honest otherwise he would have earned laurels and not rebuke. Who was the garage manger to house 1980 model which can be vintage cars and not road worthy cars as I believe their spare parts may not be available with the manufacturers? Who bought these cars and when? I doubt Nawaz bought them in 1990 when 1st time he became PM therefore please dig out the truth and then only attack Nawaz, if need be and not otherwise. It will be very interesting to know as to who bought these cars. I personally wished that if not Nawaz then at least Shahbaz had bought one car as a remembrance of the glorious past that once Nawaz used it exclusively as PM. BTW, when time permits and I am in Lahore I visit Pol Sc Dept and Law College, Lahore just to rekindle my memories as I studied there 1964-66 and 1966-69 respectively. Iqbal Hadi Zaidi/ Kuwait

After all the high-pitch propaganda about the luxury fleet all we see is this? More than 80% of cars here are over 10 year old. The reason they were not sold was perhaps because no one wanted to be alleged with nepotism and causing great loss to public exchequer. It is time we learn to not pay much attention to such propaganda and concentrate on the cases of real corruption.

@Sanjay - The idea of auctioning these cars is not to generate revenue for the State. There were more cars than needed to serve the needs of a Prime Minister. It is a message that to the rulers to adopt modesty and only have on their disposal that is necessary.

I bid for many of these cars ... and got 4 of them.
They have bullet proofing and enrlarged 5,000 cc's engines and are well kept, well maintained, with new tires and spaciously furnished.
I got the cars at average of 4 lacs each - I can easily resell them for 22 or 24 lacs each.
Ofcourse, I will pay income taxes and sale taxes to the government, but still a very good deal ...
Please Imran saib, sell more cars, please.

Good thing that these cars have been sold. Some of the amount that was spent on the purchase of these vehicles will be recouped, but more importantly, it will also save the government at least a billion rupees, if not more, annually that is spent on their maintenance. And we know where that money goes.
Also, some of these vehicles are old models, 2003, 2004, 2005, etc. So, Nawaz Sharif should not be blamed for the purchase of all these vehicles. These cars have been purchased by combination of all the previous governments, including Pervez Musharraf, Shaukat Aziz, and Yousuf Raza Gilani. Maybe others in between as well !!!

i would like to see what each car sold for along with its picture to see whether it was sold at a fair value or given away to friends. On one hand we are selling these cars to get some money for govt and on other hand our foreign minister goes to Afghanistan and gives away almost 1 billion rupees worth of wheat to Afghanistan as a gift. This will nullify the amount received from the auction of cars Mr Qurashi did not realize that people in his country are dying of hunger in Thar and this wheat could have saved lives of our people instead of giving it away. I propose that money for this unwarranted GIFT should come out of MR QURASHI and other cabinet Ministers pockets. We are a poor country which is in financial trouble ans is not in a position to give away such gifts.

@Candasuck Govt is doing it just to get public confidence that unlike past their tax money won't be wasted. Once the people start trusting their govt then they may agree to pay taxes and start investing in their own country as well. They are also working other things. Didn't you listen about same curriculum initiative for all institutions, dams, trees etc. These initiatives will help to address at least agriculture, and religious harmony. They are committed to work on other major problems as well. Just hold down and give them some time.

The amount of money raised by these auctions will not even be noticed in the country's budget, but it is significant in that it draws attention to the extravagant excesses of previous governments and sends a message that IK considers them unacceptable. Realistically who needs that many cars?????
