CJP orders immediate arrest of DIG Gilgit-Baltistan for cyber harassment of ex-wife

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nasir on Saturday ordered the immediate arrest of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Junaid Arshad.

DIG Arshad's former wife had filed an application addressed to CJP Nisar requesting his arrest.

The application stated that DIG Arshad had posted immoral photographs of his wife on social media with the intent to defame, and, despite his request for bail being rejected by a trial court, had still not been taken into custody for prosecution.

The chief justice, irked by the matter, remarked: "Do police officers consider themselves above the law?"

He ordered police to arrest the DIG and present a report before the court by Sunday. He also issued directives for DIG Arshad's name to be placed on the exit control list (ECL).

Sir, all I keep on thinking is. What will happen when you retire will we have another Honest person like yourself on the chair or people like before you were there, and same goes for the armed forces after COAS Genral Bajwa will we have someone who thinks Pakistan or people like keyani. I wonder and there are a million like me facing the same dilemma. I want to come back to my country please make the country prosper. I am just a common man. Pakistan Zindabad.

Long live CJP. You are a jewel of a person and taking unprecedented actions for betterment of Pakistan and our nation. She approached you instead of knocking at High Court itself proves how much confidence people repose on you. Had you not ordered to arrest DIG he would have still inflicted more hell on her. What worries not only me but the nation as a whole that when you retire next year who will look after the destitute and grief stricken commoner? I very strongly suggest that CJP must be given unlimited extension to work till he is fit to work and the law which is not divine law in any case should be changed accordingly allowing CJP to continue without any gap in between. This is just a small fry compared to our honorable lot of law makers. There are many law makers who have horrible stories of such exploitation to explain. But, the police and authorities just turn their faces on the other side in indifference.

The police consider themselves above the law because when they are the ones enforcing the law on others, who is going to check them. That is why police vehicles go the wrong way on one-way roads and cut through red-lights.

The democratic system which is based upon two aspiring fundamentals - applicability of law and across the board accountability to all without any merit to political clout, is being implemented by our CJP, which is highly commendable. This action will send a clear message to those in the echelon of power that everyone whosoever he may be, has come under the purview of law and NOBODY is above law.
