LONDON: The City of London paid tribute to the representatives of the 4th Indian Division at Mansion House today [Sept 13]. The Lord Mayor of London, Sir Samuel Joseph, in an official welcome said: “We thank you for what you have done and we thank you for all you are doing.”

Headed by Lieut.-Col. R.B. Scott, all the British and Indian representatives who attended the reception signed the historic visitors’ book and hereafter were personally conducted by the Lord Mayor on a tour of the Mansion House which is the Lord Mayor’s official residence.

The city gave the contingent a terrific welcome. Every man in it was filmed and photographed. The Lord Mayor ... said: “On behalf of the city I wish to say ‘thank you’ for what you have done. It was a fine inspiration to bring this contingent to London not only because it gives you an opportunity of well-deserved leave but more particularly that you and your colleagues may know in what high esteem the heroic 4th Indian Division is held by all of us.

“We are extremely sorry that you have suffered so many casualties but we glory in that magnificent, daring, efficient and superb work you have done. ...”
