Ton-up Khushdil stars as Fata stun SNGPL

KARACHI: Young Khushdil Shah underlined his immense potential as an all-rounder by playing a pivotal role in inspiring Fata to a shock six-run victory over the star-laden SNGPL in their second-round Quaid-i-Azam One-day Cup tie in Abbottabad on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Bannu-born left-hander followed up his 110 in last week’s defeat against NBP by stroking a career-best 122 with his 114-ball unbeaten innings containing laced with 12 fours and four sixes as Fata reached 304-5 in 45 overs after SNGPL skipper Mohammad Hafeez opted to field first in a delayed start to the game at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Opener Fazal-ur-Rehman made 68 while helping Khushdil add 127 for the third wicket. Skipper Asif Afridi lashed a 17-ball 43 (four sixes and three fours) in the unbroken stand of 70 with Khushdil.

Despite Pakistan duo of Asad Shafiq (88 off 79 balls, 10 boundaries) and Mohammad Rizwan (85 off 93, six fours and two sixes) sharing a second-wicket partnership of 146, SNGPL ended up making 298-8. After his batting heroics, Khushdil claimed 3-49 in nine overs of left-arm spin.

Wapda notched up their second win when they downed Multan by 54 runs at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Opener Bismillah Khan (78 off 72 balls, 11 fours and one six) and skipper Salman Butt (76 off 75, seven fours) added 130 for the second wicket to help Wapda collect 313-5 in their 50 overs.

Multan, in reply, were dismissed for 259.

PTV young skipper Saud Shakeel slammed an undefeated 82 (104 balls, five fours and one six) while leading his side to a seven-wicket stroll over Lahore Blues at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

Pakistan discard Umar Amin hit 97 (114 balls, seven fours and three sixes) as his SSCGL side clinched a 59-run win against Karachi Whites at the National Stadium.

After their success in the first-class match, Peshawar further humiliated HBL by defeating the bankers by 10 runs at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi.

In a tense finish, KRL edged Islamabad by two wickets with only three deliveries to spare at the Diamond Club Ground despite Faizan Riaz shining for the hosts with 100 (113 balls, 11 fours) and figures of 3-53.

In other fixtures, ZTBL beat Rawalpindi by 27 runs and NBP crushed Lahore Whites by a handsome margin of 184 runs.
