RAWALPINDI: Keeping with tradition, girls secured most of the top positions in the annual intermediate exams for 2018 and secured the first two positions.

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Rawalpindi announced the top position holders on Tuesday. The rest of the result will be announced on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Viqarun Nisa College for Women.

The overall pass percentage was 53.1pc. A total of 67,769 candidates appeared in the exams including 27,832 boys and 39,935 girls. There were 43,204 regular students.

Pass percentage was 53.1pc, private colleges performed better than government colleges

The girls’ pass percentage was better at 56.77pc while 47.72pc of the boys passed. Most of the top position holders are from Chakwal, Rawalpindi and Jhelum districts.

Private college students performed better than those of government colleges.

Zahekatul Jannat of the Punjab College for Girls Chakwal secured the overall first position with 1,048 marks, Aiman Nisa of Punjab College for Women Rawalpindi secured the second position with 1,044 marks while Mohammad Yasir Mehmood of Kallar Kahar Science College for Boys, Kallar Kahar Chakwal came third with 1,042 marks.

In the general science group boys, Mohammad Hamza Muneebul Hassan of Chennab College for Boys Talagang Road Chakwal and Mohammad Zafeer Yaseen of Steps College for Boys Rawalpindi came first with 947 marks.

Fasih Mehmood from Kallar Kahar College for Boys Chakwal and Awais Khan of Punjab College of Information Technology Rawalpindi came second with 942 marks.

In the general science group girls, Amna Arshad of Punjab College for Women Rawalpindi came first with 1,006 marks, Hamna Luqman of the same college came second with 1,003 marks while Sehrish Khalid from the same college came third with 990 marks.

In the pre-engineering group boys, Arslan Ahmed of the Punjab College of Science Talagang Chakwal came first with 1,038 marks, Mohammad Zeeshan Javed of the Punjab College of Science and Commerce Chakwal came second with 1,033 marks while Mohammad Irfan from Mulhal Science College for Boys Chakwal came third with 1,026 marks.

In the pre-engineering group girls, Muntaha Rashid of the Punjab College for Women Rawalpindi came first with 1,036 marks, Kalsoom Nazish of the same college came second with 1,030 marks while

Laiba Waheed for the Fauji Foundation Higher Secondary School Kallar Kahar came third with 1,002 marks.
