PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has ordered transformation of the functions of Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) and realignment of professional and technical skills trainings with the market and industries.

Presiding over a meeting here on Friday, he said the new ground realities of the market and industrial sector required highly skilled manpower in order to raise the existing placement for jobs from 25 per cent to 70 per cent.

“Compromising improvement and progress creates a lot of problems that we have seen in the last few decades and the people are still bearing the brunt of these illogical compromises,” he said, adding that resistance to change and improvement delayed the growth.

A statement issued here said that the meeting focused on the functions, progress of different institutes, the governance and budget related issues, and made a number of decisions.

Finance minister Taimoor Saleem Jhagra, additional chief secretary Shehzad Bangash, secretaries of finance, industries, science & information technology, Tevta managing director Mohammad Amin and others attended the meeting.

The chief minister said the services sector was being rediscovered and the quality of trainings would be brought on a par with international standards as professional education and training would be the focus area for fulfilling the future needs of the province.

Appreciating the work of the management of Tevta, Mahmood Khan directed it to develop different domains and ensure productive use of its employees.

He appreciated the savings made by the management of Tevta and bringing transparency, urging it to develop linkages with different industries. He stressed for effective monitoring of progress of Tevta institutes to ensure performance evaluation and financial review.

The chief minister directed the finance department to arrange immediate funding for Tevta. He also ordered fixing the governance related issues of the authority.
