KARACHI: Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force on Friday vowed to “uphold the glorious and finest traditions of the force inherited from predecessors,” said a PAF statement.

Addressing a ceremony held at Air Headquarters, Islamabad to mark Sept 7 as Martyrs Day, he said that the nation always remembered the great sacrifices of martyrs and the ceremony was sincere recognition of their selfless services.

“It is a matter of immense pride for all of us that we have gathered here to pay homage to our brave martyrs who valiantly defended the motherland,” the statement quoted the air chief as saying.

“Undoubtedly the whole nation always remembers their great sacrifices and today’s ceremony is sincere recognition of their selfless services.”

The statement said that a wreath-laying ceremony was also held at the grave of the country’s youngest Nishan-i-Haider recipient, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed in Karachi. A PAF contingent led by Air Vice Marshal Ahsan Rafiq, Air Officer Commanding, Sout­hern Air Command, offered fateha and laid floral wreath at the grave of Rashid Minhas Shaheed on behalf of Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan.
