Unity Cup football kicks off

KARACHI: The Aik Awaam Unity Cup kicked off on Thursday with Light of Baloch overcoming Karachi United 3-2 and Al Wajid thrashing Sultanabad Union 3-0 in the opening matches of the six-day football tournament.

The 32-team tournament is being organised by Aik Awaam Movement, a volunteer-based movement led by Jibran Nasir for social justice and human development. The tournament is being played in knockout style and both Light of Baloch and Al Wajid advanced to the last-16 round.

They were later joined by Moosa Lashari, who defeated Young Prince 2-0, and National Fighters, who beat Sindh Muslim 3-2 on penalties after an intense match. Also on the opening day, Young Tughlaq ran out 3-0 winners over Afghan Jaanbaz.
