PESHAWAR, June 11: Peshawar were crowned women’s regional cricket champions after defeating Bannu by 29 runs in the final match at the Frontier Women’s College ground on Saturday. Batting first, Peshawar failed to build a decent score after a fine opening partnership of 81 between skipper Farzana and Sania. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 130 in 25 overs.

Farzana top-scored with 51, a knock which included six fours and one six. Sania played a supporting role by making 30 with two boundaries. Shumaila Khan (19) and Shakina (17) also made useful contributions.

For Bannu, Noureen, Larab and Nazish Khan took two wickets each

Bannu made solid start in reply with Momina (28) and Nazia (32) putting 64 for the first wicket. But the remaining batswomen failed to click as Bannu crashed to 101 all out in 19.2 overs. Shazia was the main wicket-taker with three wickets while Sumeera chipped in with two.

Earlier in the semifinals of the seven-team competition, Peshawar defeated Mardan while Bannu beat Kohat.
